Obituary of Jean Laventure

ILION-Mrs. Jean H. (Shoen) Laventure, 87, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica. She was born on July 27, 1921 in Ilion, the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Hill) Shoen and educated in Frankfort schools. In 1943, she was united in marriage with Paul Adams, he passed away in 1975. On August 3, 1985 she was united in marriage with Frank G. Laventure. Mr. Laventure passed away on October 18, 2003. She was last employed as a nurse’s aide with Ilion Homestead and was a member of the Episcopal Church, Ilion. She was also a member of the Ilion VFW and American Legion Auxillary’s. Survivors include five children: Carol Gillette and husband Ron of Frankfort, Sharon Putnam and husband Ken of Little Falls, Patricia Austin and husband Robert of Ilion, Donna Rockwell and husband Doug of Salisbury and Robert Adams and wife Donna of Edmenston; a brother: Herbert Shoen and wife Jackie of Florida; a sister in law: Diane Shoen of Ilion; several grandchildren, and great grandchildren who all affectionately called their grandma “gigi”, especially mentioning Gabriele; two step children: Michelle Laventure and Lynette Delaney both of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Shoen and a daughter: Judy Ray. In respecting Jean’s wishes there are no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to her funeral Mass of Resurrection commencing at 11 am on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 78 Second St., Ilion. Procession will follow to Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort where she will be laid to rest. Kindly consider memorial offerings in Jean’s name to the American Cancer Society, Herkimer County Humane Society or to St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral service on Tuesday. The family offers their gratitude to the dedicated staff of Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center for their kindness, compassion and friendship. The family is being cared for by director Daniel J.
