Obituary of Patricia Murphy

ILION-Mrs. Patricia Ann "Pat" (Bergin) Murphy, 78 of Second St. Ext., passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, October 2, 2009 at her residence. She was born on April 12, 1931, daughter of the late John and Katherine (Fleucher) Bergin and educated in Ilion schools. She resided in East Herkimer at one time moving to Ilion in 1999. On May 1, 1954, she was united in marriage with Daniel Murphy at Annunciation Church, Ilion. Mr. Murphy passed away in 2005, following a union of 51 years. Pat was of the Catholic faith and was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis deSales Church in Herkimer. She married Chuck Earl On January 18, 2007 and would have celebrated three years of marriage in January. Pat assisted in the operation of Dan Murphy Optical in Herkimer for many years and was formerly employed by Congressman Donald Mitchell, Herkimer County Office Building and the New York Telephone Company. Mrs. Murphy always went above and beyond for those seeking her assistance and was always lending a helping hand and putting the needs of others before her own. Many wonderful memories were created at her summer camp on Lake Pleasant. She enjoyed traveling and enjoyed sports often attending sporting events. Pat took great pleasure in being with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She will be forever remembered by her family and friends for her generosity and willingness to help. Survivors include her beloved family; her husband Chuck; three sons, Timothy Murphy and his wife Brenda of West Palm Beach, FL, James Murphy and his wife Linda of East Herkimer, and Daniel Murphy and his girlfriend, Christina of Herkimer; one daughter, Patricia Gugliotta and her husband Robert of Syracuse; her siblings: Bernice Hennessey, Shirley Goodman of Florida, Jack Bergin and wife Doris of Ilion and Robert Bergin and wife Connie of Florida; five cherished grandchildren Katherine, Kristina, Michael, Lisa, and Robert Murphy; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws and of course many devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Mellie Petrie, Eleanor Helmer and Martha Bergin. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000,on Monday, October 5, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. Mrs. Murphy's funeral will commence on Tuesday morning, Oct. 6th at 10:15 a.m. from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home where prayer will be offered and at 11 a.m. at St. Francis deSales Church with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where she will be laid to rest.
