Obituary of Elizabeth Shedd

Mohawk: Elizabeth A. Shedd, 73, a longtime Mohawk resident, passed away after a brief illness, on Friday, November 27, 2009 surrounded by her family, at Faxton-St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Elizabeth was born on September 24, 1936 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late George and Cecilia (Stock) Hoffman. She was educated in Herkimer, attending St. Francis de Sales School, then Herkimer High School, graduating with the class of 1954. Her marriage to Alan J. Shedd took place on June 30, 1956 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. Together, they shared a loving and blessed union of 51 years until his passing on December 6, 2007. Elizabeth, along with her husband Alan, owned and operated Shedd's Antiques in Mohawk. Elizabeth was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. She was a loving mother and Nonnie and is survived by her children: David Shedd of Altmar, NY, Kevin Shedd and his wife Christine of Cape Coral, FL, Diane Girard and her husband Peter of Jordanville, Michael Shedd and his wife Jennifer of Ilion, and Matthew Shedd and his wife Stacie, also of Ilion; 15 grandchildren: Corey Shedd and his fiancee Danielle, Ryan Shedd, Rebecca and Josh Smith, Amanda Shedd, Justine and Jennifer Shedd, Sarah, Joseph and Benjamin Girard, William, Emily and Abigail Shedd, Allison, Nicholas and Logan Shedd; one great-grandchild: Landen Smith; daughter-in-law: Cindy Depew of Fairfield; sister-in-law: Rose Mary Kane of Ilion; also many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kathy Kenealy, and a special friend, Pat Smallenberger. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alan; a sister, Gertrude Kenealy; and a brother, Paul Hoffman. Relatives and friends are invited to memorial visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (between Ilion and Frankfort) 894-8000, on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 4-7 pm. Elizabeth's funeral will commence on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 11 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, where her Memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Committal will follow at Mohawk Cemetery II (Vickerman Hill). As requested by the family, please omit floral offerings.
