Obituary of Michael Wacyk

SCHUYLER-Mr. Michael Wacyk, 90 a resident of Valley Health Services, formerly of Bono Blvd., passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, November 18, 2009 at the nursing home. He was born on November 13, 1919 in Herkimer, son of the late Andrew and Catherine (Chuniak) Wacyk and educated in Van Hornesville schools. His marriage to the former Marietta Schlotzhauer took place in Mohawk on August 15, 1942; a blessed union of 67 years. He was last employed with Library Bureau as a kiln operator retiring after 32 years of dedicated service. Mr. Wacyk was at one time a volunteer policeman for the Village of Herkimer. He was a talented dancer and belonged to the United Polka League. In his spare time Michael enjoyed working on various projects and was a self taught handyman. He enjoyed pitching for local softball teams when time permitted. He will be sadly missed by his family. Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Marietta of Schuyler; a daughter: Donna Vandell of Mohawk; a son: William Wacyk; a brother: Stephen Wacyk and wife Shirley of Hatfield, PA; a sister: Anna Getman; his grandchildren: Robert Gegler and wife Jean, Brian Wacyk, and Krista Charles; great grandchildren: Jessica Gegler, Sarah Gegler, Robert Gegler, Jr., Matthew and Samantha Cano and Abagail Charles; many nieces, nephews, and in laws. He was preceded in death by a sister: Mary Hinotsky. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000 on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. His funeral will commence at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion/Frankfort, where prayer will be offered and at 2:30 p.m. from Christ Episcopal Church, 300 N. Main Street, Herkimer where his Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Bailey, Rector. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Christ Episcopal Church or to Valley Health Services; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor. Arrangements are by director-Daniel J. Enea.
