Obituary of Christine Woods

Mohawk – Mrs. Christine M. Woods, 90, formerly of Greenwood Terrace, Mohawk, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side in Folts Homes, Herkimer on Wednesday evening, November 18, 2009. She was born on September 3, 1919 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Krchniak) Janeka. She was a graduate of Herkimer Schools and the NYC School of Cosmetology. On June 1, 1940, she married Peter Woods at St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville. Peter passed away on September 28, 1971. Mrs. Woods was last employed at the Mohawk Homestead and was a beautician for 20 years. Mrs. Woods was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Herkimer and served for 26 years on its Altar Guild; she was a 50 year member of the Mohawk Order of the Eastern Star, and a 40 year member of the Mohawk American Legion Auxilliary, and was also a member of the WLCA. Mrs. Woods leaves behind her beloved family, a son: Steven Woods and his wife Sharyn of Newport; a daughter: Eleanor Crouch of Mohawk; six grandchildren: Deborah Hudson of Amsterdam, Beth Ann Crouch of East Falmouth, MA, Bonnie Bryant and her husband Ralph of New Hampshire, Christine Couchman and Bill Boyd of Merritt Island, FL, Michael Woods and his wife Kelly of Newport, and Tracy Woods of Albany; five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Woods, Zachary Woods, Brady Woods, Cari Hudson, and Bruce Hudson; a sister-in-law: Evelyn Janeka and a brother-in-law: Herbert Wick. Christine was predeceased by her husband, Peter; her son-in-law, Thomas Crouch; brothers: Paul Janeka, Sr. and Corporal Stephen Janeka; and her sisters: Ann Grainger, Katherine Wick, Suzanne Woods, and Elizabeth Grose. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort (894-8000), on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. Her funeral will immediately follow (12 noon) at the funeral home on Saturday, with the Reverend Ann Zimmerman, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Herkimer, officiating. Procession will follow to Mohawk Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Peter. The Mohawk Order of the Eastern Star will meet at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 11:30 am to conduct their service. Christine’s family would like to extend their great appreciation to the staff on the first and second floors of Folts Homes, Herkimer for the kindness and compassion shown during Christine’s stay with them.
