Obituary of Frederick DeLucco

Mr. Frederick R. “Beef” DeLucco 89 of 19 Van Buren Street a prominent businessman died Sunday October 11, 2009 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born in Dolgeville on August 13, 1920 the son of Domenico and Maria Carmella (Colotta) Delucco and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School class of 1939. He furthered his education by receiving a football scholarship to Hartwick College. His college education was interrupted by World War II, when he joined the United States Coast Guard. His military service was from August 13, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945 with the rank of Seaman1st Class. His duty stations included Montauk, Long Island along with others in the area, until he received orders to serve as an escort to ships on there way to Northern Ireland. Before entering the service and upon being discharged Fred was employed by area companies including the Eastern Footwear, Melrose Shoe Company and Dalsan’s. Shortly after his return from the service he became owner of the Dolgeville News Company on South Main Street with his brothers, until 1986, and continued with his family in business for a total of 47 years retiring in 1993. His marriage to the former Joy Primer took place on January 15, 1951 in Dolgeville. Beef as he was known was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Dolgeville Business Association, a former member of the American Legion Post of Dolgeville, and was a member of the Dolgeville Semi-pro Football Team the “Vets” 1946-47-48, and also served as the business manger for the Dolgeville Ramblers Foot ball team during the 1950’s. His personal interests were in cards, sporting events on TV, especially the Yankees and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Joy of 58 years, his son Frederick J. DeLucco of Dolgeville, his Daughters Donna M. DeLucco of Dolgeville and Christine "Dodie" and her husband Michael Volo of Little Falls, and his Granddaughter Natasha DeLucco-Campione who was his pride and joy. Additional survivors are several Nieces and Nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his Brothers Sylvan, Charles, Ernest and Dominick, his Sisters Josephine Maimone, Antonetta Coffey, Ann Milazzo, Elvira DeLucco and Lena “Lee” DeLucco and his grandson James “Jamie” DeLucco-Campione who died on August 24, 1991. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday October 15, 2009 at 9 AM in St. Joseph’s Church Helmer Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. William A. Gorman, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will Military Honors by the United States Coast Guard will be rendered at the St. Joseph’s cemetery following the Mass. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Memorials in Fred’s name may be sent to the Ronald McDonald House 1027 East Genesee St. Syracuse, NY 13210 or St. Joseph’s Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and services. A Special thank You to Cindy Reles F.N.P., Wendy Thompson and the staff of the Little Falls Hospital for the care given to Fred while he was a patient there.
