Obituary of Robert Gould

Robert Lee Gould 63 of 405 Military Road town of Salisbury, died Thursday evening January 14, 2010 at the HPCI Siegenthaler Center, town of Kirkland after an extended illness. Bob was born in Ilion, New York on November 15, 1946 the son of Mildred (Evans) Gay of Newport and the late Robert Gould and his late stepfather George Gay Sr. who raised him. Bob was a graduate of West Canada High School class of 1966. A veteran of the Viet Nam war he served honorably with the United States Army from February 1967 until his discharge in January 1969 with the rank of Sp5. He was awarded the following services medals, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifleman M-16, Viet Nam service Medal and VSM Medal with 2 o/s Bars. His marriage to the former Evelyn Dager took place on June 10, 1967 in the Salisbury Center Methodist Church parsonage. Bob was employed as a tool maker for area companies including Kelsey Hayes, Bendix Company, Chicago Pneumatic and most recently Utica Corporation of Whitesboro from where he retired in 2004 due to his illness. He also owned and operated Sweet Dreams Bait and Tackle Shop from his residence for a number of years. He was a member of the VFW of Newport, the Machinist Union, and a member of the Bass Master Fishing Organization. His personal interests were in the outdoors especially Bass fishing. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of 42 years, His daughters and their husbands Heather and John Sullivan of Remsen and Amanda and Eric Schrier of Los Angeles, CA., his Mother Mildred Gay of Newport, his Brothers George Gay Jr. of Dolgeville, Ronnie Gay of Norway, Donnie Gay of Middleville, his Sisters Liz Weakley of Utica, Cindy Agne of Norway and Shirley Jackson of Little Falls, his granddaughter Jordynn Sullivan and his step granddaughter Patricia Sullivan, a special Aunt Florence Monroe of Ilion , several Nieces and Nephews. Also his canine companions Emi, Jewel, Sassy, Schultz and Sophia. Friends may call at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville on Sunday January 17th, from 1-3 PM, at the conclusion of hours member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness will offer a memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Siegenthaler Center or to the American Cancer Society in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
