Obituary of Thurman Knapp

DOLGEVILLE- Mr. Thurman C. Knapp, 81, of Stewart Street, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 10,2010 at Little Falls Hospital. He was born on April 3, 1928 in Dolgeville, son of the late Theodore and Alice (House) Knapp. He was a 55+ year member of the Masons and was a proud member of the U.S. Army serving his country from 1950-1952. On May 12, 1990 he was united in marriage with Pauline Polivka in Cold Brook, NY. Thurman loved to go fishing and moose hunting in Canada. He had a great love for animals especially his Labradors. He also loved feeding his birds. He loved traveling, especially taking bus trips and enjoyed visiting Newfoundland, Alaska, Hawaii, Branson and many other places. He loved to pilot cesnas and loved to ride his scooter with his scooter friends. Survivors include his wife, Pauline; his daughter, Lynne Lyon and her husband Richard of Dolgeville; his son, Brad Polivka and his wife Joanne of Rome; his grandchildren, Erik Avery and his wife Antonia of Suffolk,VA, Melanie Polivka of Rome, Jacob Polivka of Rome, Dillon Lyon of St. Johnsville; his great granddaughter, Erika Lynne Avery and his cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Evelyn Knapp. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Roberts and Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 E. Faville Ave. Dolgeville on Tuesday January 12, 2010 from 4-7 pm and on Wednesday January 13, 2010 from 10:30am-11am. A religious service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13th at 11am from the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Scott officiating. Burial will take place in the spring of 2010 at Salisbury Rural Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude and special thanks to the emergency room and 1st & 3rd floor staff at Little Falls Hospital, especially his little friend Flo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Thurman’s name to the Herkimer County Humane Society or to S & S Ambulance Co, Dolgeville. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
