Obituary of Daniel Holland

Daniel “Dan” F. Holland, 64, of Mohawk, NY, and Waco, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the VA Medical Center and Hospital in Salisbury, NC, after a long illness, with his loving wife, Sue, and his family at his side. Dan was born in Utica on May 30, 1945, the son of Floyd and Gustava Holland from the town of Litchfield. He attended the West Winfield Sentinel School. He served in the USAF and while stationed at Clark AFB, Phillipines, he was with the Red Horse Unit, who were deployed on temporary duty to Vietnam, repairing and building runways. On June 12, 1982, he was married to Susan Frederick, who lovingly cared for him during his illness. Dan was a successful, self-employed businessman. He owned a heavy equipment construction business in Florida, operated a Harley-Davidson dealership in Leesburg, FL, and Mohawk, NY, owned a snowmobile parts retail store at Denison Corners, Mohawk, NY, and currently was a steel distributor in Waco, NC. He was an avid Nascar fan and was a former race car driver in his younger years. He was “one-of-a-kind”! His love for his family was very deep. If he yelled at you, it was because he liked you, but he was all bark and no bite. Survivors include his wife, Susan (Frederick) Holland; his father and mother-in-law, Dick and Shirley Frederick, of Trade, TN; two daughters, Stacie Borek and husband, Ted, of Herkimer, NY, and Megan Khashman and George Bottoni, of Marcy, NY, and their mother, Karen Holland, of New Hartford, NY; a son, James Holland and wife, Carla, of Mohawk, NY; a stepdaughter, Heather Pendleton and Wayne Grigg, of Shelby, NC; a sister, Nancy Cook and husband, Don, of Mohawk, NY; a brother, Jerome Holland and wife, Deborah, of Utah; two aunts, Ellen Ball, of Ilion, NY, and Frances Dutton, of Emporia, VA; an uncle, George Holland, of Little Falls, NY; grandchildren, Teddy, Matt and Marshall Borek, Anthony Khashman, Cayla, Celsey and Zachary Holland, Carrie Ross and Brooklyn Pendleton; two nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews; and one great-niece. He was predeceased by his parents. Cremation took place on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in Salisbury, NC. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Norwich Corners Church, Roberts Road, Town of Litchfield, NY, with Rev. Alan Mosely officiating. Full military honors will be observed. The family wishes to thank the Veteran's Administration for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Donation envelopes will be available at the Norwich Corners Church.
