Obituary of Donald Adams

Herkimer: Mr. Donald B. Adams, Jr., 80, of W. German Street, Herkimer, passed away in his home on Monday, August 24, 2009. Mr. Adams was born on October 15, 1928, in Herkimer, a son of the late Donald B., Sr. and Isabelle (Pettit) Adams. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Don served in the United States Navy from April 16, 1951 until April 24, 1953, attaining the rank of Petty Officer. He married the former Arlene Calderazzo on October 21, 1967 in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer; together they enjoyed a loving union of over forty years until her passing on October 19, 2008. Don was employed as a Veterans Counselor for the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs in Herkimer. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church, was a former member of the Herkimer Town Board for 28 years, a past Exalted Ruler of the Herkimer Elks Lodge, a member of the Herkimer American Legion Post, and was involved with many other organizations, both civic and charitable. Mr. Adams is survived by his son, Donald J. Adams of Herkimer; three brothers, Ted, Tom and John; and three sisters, Nancy, Jean, and Judy; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Arlene and brother, Robert. There are no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass, celebrated by the Reverend Mark Cunningham, on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 11:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger Street, Herkimer. Committal will take place privately in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider donations in his memory to the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the church.
