Obituary of Ruth Brewer

TOWN OF COLUMBIA-ILION - Ruth E. (Polley) Brewer, age 86, of 107 Warren Rd., Town of Columbia, Ilion, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Little Falls Hospital. She was born on March 22, 1923, in Ilion, the daughter of Edward and Ethel (Gould) Polley and attended Ilion Schools. Ruth spent her childhood in Ilion, and most of her adult life in the Town of Columbia. On October 22, 1965, Ruth was married to Grant Brewer. He died on March 18, 2002. She spent the past several years enjoying the Spinnerville Homestead that she and Grant farmed. Ruth enjoyed the company of her friends and family who stopped to visit her and loved being home. Survivors include her loving children, Carl Volo of Ocala, FL, Ruth Ann Flynn and her husband, Tim Flynn, of VanHornesville, Sandra Smith of Herkimer, and Barbara Matteson and her husband, Bill of Neptune Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Tom Flynn of Watertown, Tracy Lowry of Cherry Valley, Fawn Boyle of Ponte Vedra, FL, Bill Matteson of Clinton, NY, Shaula Polus of Herkimer, Veronica Volo and Carl Volo, Jr. of FL; her loving great-grandchildren, Zachary Zaborek of Herkimer, Maxwell Polus of Herkimer, Shawn and Hope Lowry of Cherry Valley, Dillon and Lange Matteson of Clinton, NY, Josephine and Amelia Boyle of Ponte Vedra, FL; her brothers, Ed Polley of West Winfield, Ken Polley and his wife, Gloria of Ilion, Dave Polley and his wife, Rita of MA; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Volo. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Ken Misterka, officiating. Interment will be in North Columbia Cemetery, Town of Columbia, NY. Calling hours are Wednesday from 12 noon - 2 p.m., prior to the funeral home service. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Dept. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
