Obituary of Maria Camacho

ILION-Mrs. Maria Camacho, 94, of Fourth Street, Ilion, passed away on Sunday evening, June 14, 2009 peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on August 2, 1914 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Cruz and Estafania (Lopez) Camacho. The family came to the United States of America in 1951. She was united in marriage to Daniel Torres who predeceased her. Mrs. Camacho spent her life taking care of the loving family and her home. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her children: Francisco Torres and wife Ana of Mohawk, Maria Austin of Ilion , Anibal Torres and wife Dolores of Long Island, and Gloria Byrne of Ilion; her grandchildren: Jose and Lisa Maldonado, Rosa and Vincente Valdivia, Jason and Civita Lape, Susan Torres, Matt and Mari Grainger, Charito Byrne, Alicia Torres, David and Jennifer Austin, Victoria, Justin and Philip Torres, Richie, Albert, and Junior Torres, Frankie Torres, Annie Torres, and Maria Torres; eleven grandchildren out of town; thirty five great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren and a special friend Carol Jean Scholl; she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christina Torres. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West Street, Ilion, 895-7722 on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will commence at 9:15 am on Thursday, June 18 from the chapel of the funeral home on West Street, where a prayer service will take place and at 10 am from the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Anthony Barratt, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Funeral procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion where she will be laid to rest. The family offers its sincere gratitude to the doctors of St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital ICU and also to the nurses and staff of Hospice Care, Inc., for their kindness and compassion. The family is being served by Kevin E. Enea, director.
