Obituary of Santella Curtis

MOHAWK - Santella R. Curtis, 83, of State Route 168, Mohawk, died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. She was born in New Haven, Conn., on Dec. 6, 1925, the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Decino) Martinelli and attended schools in New Haven, Conn. On April 29, 1949, she was married to Paul Holden Curtis in New Haven, Conn. He died in 1974. Santella was a homemaker and member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Fair Haven, Conn. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Alice Curtis of Mohawk, with whom she resided, Alan and Margaret Curtis of Guilford, Conn., and Bill Curtis of New Haven, Conn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Valenti of Florida; six grandchildren; one brother, Biagio Martinelli of East Haven, Conn.; two sisters and two brothers-in-law; Eleanor and Abe DePalma of East Haven, Conn., and Delores and Peter Notarino of Branford, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters, Louise Mastriano, Julia Accurso, Lucy Martinelli, Rae Martinelli, and one brother, Nicholas Martinelli. Private graveside services will be held at St. Laurence Cemetery, New Haven, Conn., in Spring, 2009. There are no calling hours. The Curtis family entrusted funeral arrangements to Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk.
