Obituary of Joyce M Darling

OPPENHEIM-Mrs. Joyce M. (Hilly) Darling, age 69, a lifetime Oppenheim resident, entered into eternal rest on Friday afternoon, July 17, 2009 peacefully in Valley Health Services, Herkimer in the presence of her family and under the loving care of the staff of the nursing home. Joyce was born on May 27, 1940 in Stratford, daughter of the late Paul and Margorie (Perry) Hilly and educated in the Stratford area. She was united in marriage with Ralph Darling on July 23, 1988 in Oppenheim at the family home. Mr. Darling passed away on January 1, 2008 after a blessed union of nearly 20 years. Mr. and Mrs. Darling wintered in Florida for five years and enjoyed the spring and summer months at their home in Oppenheim. Joyce was last employed by the former Coleco Factory in Mayfield, NY and she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Oppenheim. Mrs. Darling was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and tended to the needs of her family with attentive concern and loving care. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. Joyce personally enjoyed fishing, camping and the great outdoors in general. Survivors include her beloved family; her children: Kerry LaQuay and wife Linda of Boonville, Bruce LaQuay and wife Cheryl of Oppenheim, and Brian LaQuay and wife Lynne of Barstow, California; a brother: Fred Hilly and wife Janice of Cortland; a sister in law: Janice "Toni" Hilly of Utica; her cherished grandchildren: Sharyse Goodell, Krystal, Michelle, Timothy, Stephanie, and Courtney LaQuay and Carrie and Jason Schreck; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Melissa Reinhardt Vosburgh; by a grandson: Lucas Matthew Vosburgh; and by two brothers: Paul Hilly and William Hilly. In respecting the wishes of Joyce, there are no public calling hours or funeral service. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a graveside memorial service commencing at a time to be announced by the family. The service will be at the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills were her cremated remains will be interred next to her husband, Ralph. The family would like to thank the staff of Valley Health Services, Herkimer for their kindness and compassion. Memorial offerings may be made to the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Company, 6786 State Highway 29, St. Johnsville, NY 13452; envelopes may also be obtained at the funeral home.
