Obituary of Julie DeCarr

ILION - Julie P. DeCarr, age 82, of 14 S. Fourth Ave., Ilion, passed away on Friday August 7, 2009, at home. She was born on February 13, 1927, in Frankfort, NY, the daughter of Peter and Aneilla (Potoczna) Szewczyk, and was a graduate of Proctor High School, Utica. On April 14, 1951, she was married to Francis J. DeCarr in Utica. He died on November 4, 1971. Julie was an inspector and repaired circuit boards at Sperry-Rand UNIVAC, Utica. She later worked assembly at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, retiring in 1997. Mrs. DeCarr attended the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jim Herrmann of Syracuse, and Sheila and Steve Emrich of Ilion; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Barbara DeCarr of Syracuse, Gary and Ellen DeCarr of Pennelville, NY, Wayne and Sandy DeCarr of Warners, NY, and John DeCarr of Durhamville, NY; her daughter-in-law, Kathie DeCarr of Clifton Park, NY; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Norm Kirk of Stittville, NY; several nieces, nephews, and her canine companion, Heidi. She was predeceased by her son, Ronald DeCarr; two sisters, Genevieve Kirk and Helen Talerico; and five brothers, Stanley, Peter, Chester, Anthony and John Szewczyk. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, Pastor, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, North Ilion. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 11, 2009, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Annunciation, Herkimer Co. Humane Society or ALS of Utica. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Anyone needing a ride to the calling hours or funeral services may call the funeral home anytime at 895-7722 for complimentary transportation assistance. The DeCarr family has entrusted all arrangements to funeral director Don Applegate.
