Obituary of Henry Delwo

HERKIMER-Mr. Henry Delwo, 96, of Jeffrey St., Herkimer, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, entered into eternal rest peacefully on New Years Day, 2009 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. Henry was born on December 7, 1912 in Kendal, Saskatchewan Canada, son of the late Jacob and Katherine (Kotschorek) Delwo. On December 21, 1933 he was joined in marriage with Dorothy M. Sanderson with whom he shared a devoted union of 71 years until her passing on July 24, 2005. After completing high school, he began an association with his father who operated a hardware and farm implement business in Kendal. This led to a position with Cockshutt Plow Co. in Regina, Sask. In this endeavor, Henry achieved great success in both sales and service. His customers soon realized that he was the individual to go to in order to get the job done. He was transferred to the Utica branch of Cockshutt Farm Equipment in November of 1954 as manager. Joining Ford Motor Co. in 1959, he enjoyed a successful 20-year career. In 1979, he retired from Ford as a Zone Manager and subsequently moved with his wife, Dorothy to Herkimer. Henry loved sports and excelled at curling. During his curling career he was the "Skip" of the NYS championship team in back to back years. He also enjoyed bowling and golf, maintaining membership in various local leagues. He also exhibited a great passion for gardening, eagerly sharing the bounty of his labor. But, above all he was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his devoted family: his son, Wayne Delwo and wife Gloria of Herkimer; his daughter: Bonnie Hyde and husband Jim of Clinton; a sister: Ida Rink and husband Joseph of Regina, Saskatchewan; his grandchildren: Heather and Riccardo Dursi of Rome, James Hyde IV, Esq. of Clifton Park, Kris and Matthew Kelly of West Harrison, Drs. Traci and Joseph Roberto of Loudonville; his great grandchildren: Ryan, Emily, Abigail, Olivia, Conner, Katy, Jack and Reagan; many nieces, nephews, cousins and an in law: Magdelyn Delwo of Canada.
