Obituary of Aurelia Filipski

HERKIMER-Mrs. Aurelia “Ella” Filipski, 78, of West Smith Street, Herkimer entered into eternal rest on Sunday evening, May 17, 2009 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica with her loving family present. She was born on June 11, 1930 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Nardelli and graduated from Herkimer High School. On August 1, 1953 she was married to Theodore “Ted” Filipski who passed away on February 18, 1968. She was a member and president of the Herkimer Senior Citizens and treasurer of the St. Francis Society, Herkimer. For many years, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Winns Furniture Store and C. Russell Smith Furniture and was last employed with MDS. She was a member of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer. Ella will always be remembered for her one liner’s: Back up and punt, you don’t even want to know and this bus is moving out. Her humor and kindness will always be remembered. Survivors include her nephew and godson: the Rev. Stephen and Rita Fedele and their children: Tommy, Toni and Stevie all of Florida; two sisters and brothers in law: Antoinette and Peter DeNigro and Rocky and Bob Delaney all of Herkimer; an uncle and his wife: Jack and Lillian Schiavone of Ca.; her goddaughters: Pat DeCola, Patty DeNigro, Cindy Holt and Joyce Lynn Thompson; a special great niece and nephew: Nicole and Joshua DeNigro and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Ella was preceded in death by one brother: Vincent Nardelli and three sisters: Dominica “Minnie” Fedele, Palma Licari and Mary Sennett. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. Ella’s funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Wednesday, May 20th from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where she will be laid to rest. It is Ella’s wish to please omit floral offerings and kindly consider contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; envelopes are available at the funeral parlor. Members of the Village of Herkimer Senior Citizens Group will conduct their service at the Enea Family Funeral Home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Members of the St. Francis Society will conduct their service at 6:30 p.m.
