Mrs. Helen Marion Gaetano 78 of 30 East Spofford Avenue Dolgeville, died Wednesday April 29, 2009 in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Utica, where she was a patient since April 25th. Prior to the hospital Helen was a resident of the Masonic Care Community in Utica. She was born in Little Falls on August 14, 1930 the daughter of William A. and Nellie K. (Reese) and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School class of 1948. Helen was married to Joseph A. Gaetano on April 26, 1970 in Booneville, New York. Helen retired from public service having served as the Town of Manheim assessor for 20 years from 1987 -2007. Her public life also found her serving the village of Dolgeville in several capacities , including Police Matron from 1973-1987, A school crossing guard from 1974-1987, a village custodian for the village hall from 1985-1992 and an election inspector from 1995-2000. Her longest tenure for the village was from 1976-1992 when she served as the Dog Control Officer. Her personal interests were with the Herkimer County Humane Society, along with feeding the wild geese behind the Daniel Green Company. She is survived by her husband Joseph , a son and his wife Richard and Andrea Becker of Gloversville, her daughters Kathleen Boyer of Dolgeville and Linda Sheppard and her fiancée James Bender of Sprakers, NY, a Brother and his wife Richard and Beverly Frederick of Arkansas, 5 Grandchildren 2 Great Grandchildren Nieces & Nephews, a former son in law Robert Sheppard. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 2, 2009 at 11 AM at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Burial will follow in the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
