Obituary of George Hailston

Ilion: Mr. George “Roy” Hailston, 87, of Flower Drive, Ilion, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 16, 2009 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford. Mr. Hailston was born on October 24, 1921 in Frankfort, a son of the late John and Helen (Shepard) Hailston. He was a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley and a graduate of Frankfort-Schuyler High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1943, and was a proud WWII Veteran. Roy married Norma June Yates on March 13, 1944, and enjoyed a loving union of over 50 years until her passing on February 3, 1995. Mr. Hailston was employed as a machinist at the Remington Arms Co. for 30 years. In addition, he worked at Jack’s Esso Gas Station in East Frankfort. He was a member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church for over 75 years. Roy loved the outdoors and had a passion for airplanes and flying. Roy is survived by his loving family: a son, Alan R. Hailston and his wife Marcia of Virginia Beach; a sister: Shirley Murphy of Ilion, and a step-sister, Beverly Garlock and her husband Ray of Mohawk; a step-brother: Tom Shepard of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren: Robyn Spencer, Kristine Lyczak, Laura Hailston, Steven Hailston, and Ken Hailston; great-grandchildren: Noah and Abby Spencer; sister-in-law, Anne Alsheimer; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Norma, and a son, Gary E. Hailston. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, August 21, from 9:30am to 11:30am at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (894-8000). Roy’s funeral will commence at the conclusion of calling hours at 11:30am at the funeral parlor with the Reverend Robert Wollaber presiding. Interment with full military honors will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 3620 State Route 12, Clinton.
