Obituary of Carl Holmberg

Mr. Carl A. Holmberg 90 a resident of Kingsway Manor Assisted Living, Schenectady and former Dolgeville resident died Sunday August 9, 2009 unexpectedly at the residence. He was born on November 24, 1918 in Washington, D.C. the son of Carl and Hattie (Austin) Holmberg. His marriage to the former Helen W. Galusha took place on March 7, 1942 in Fort Plain, New York. Mrs. Holmberg predeceased him on October 26, 2005. A veteran of WW II he served honorably in the United States Army from April 1942 until his discharge in December 1945 with the rank of Tec.4. He served as a demolition specialist with Service Company 155th Engineers in Northern France. He was awarded the following medals, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Carl retired from the Cherry Burrell Company of Little Falls as a welder after several years of service. He was a member of the American Baptist Church of Inghams Mills, a member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge #796, and he personally enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed their camp on Pleasant Lake for many years, along with his daughter and son in laws’ home on Lake George. Carl was a man who could fix anything and found great pleasure in helping others either with carpentry or mechanical projects. He is survived by his daughter and her husband Claudia and David Montana of Lake George and several Nieces and Nephews especially Charles and Leslie Holmberg of Liverpool, New York. He was predeceased by a Brother Robert, and his Sisters Helen Barnard, Hilda McClug and Margaret Lowe. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 12, 2009 at 11:30 AM at the American Baptist Church in Inghams Mills. The Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Calling hours are on Wednesday morning from 10AM until 11 AM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville, and then proceed to the church for services.
