Obituary of William Holt

MOHAWK-Mr. William A. “Bill” Holt, 82, of State Route 168 (Town of German Flatts) entered into eternal rest on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica following a brief illness. He was born on August 7, 1927 in Herkimer, son of the late Frank and Florence (Pratt) Holt and graduated from Herkimer High School. On February 10, 1959 he was united in marriage with the former Barbara Haynes at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk; a blessed union of 50 years. Mr. Holt was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He enlisted on October 5, 1945 and was honorably discharged on November 13, 1946 and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. For over 57 years, Bill along with his brother owned and operated Holt Brothers Auto Dealership in Mohawk, developing close bonds of friendship and service with many loyal customers throughout the Mohawk Valley. Mr. Holt loved the outdoors, especially working in his yard and the simple peacefulness of being in the woods. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife Barbara of Mohawk; his children: James Holt and Joann Nitka of Herkimer, Timothy Holt of Mohawk, Brian Holt Mohawk, Jill Arduini and special friend Adam Phillips of Mohawk, and Nancy Kryshchuk and husband Al of Mohawk; a brother: Jack Holt and wife Ruth of Tampa, Florida; a sister: Jean Ricker and husband Rick of Fayetville; eleven cherished grandchildren: Jim Holt, Tara Abbott and husband Andrew, William Holt, Maria Holt, Alex and Danielle Kryshchuk, Katie and Robert Holt, Matthew and Ryan Holt, and Rachel Arduini; one adored great grandson: Tyler Abbott; a brother in law: Donald Haynes and wife Mary of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Holt. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort (894-8000) on Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 3-6 p.m. Mr. Holt’s funeral will commence at 9:15 am on Monday, September 28th from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where Mr. Holt will be laid to rest and full military honors will be offered by the United States Army. The Holt family feels deeply grateful to numerous people who have been of great assistance and comfort. Especially noteworthy are the following individuals whose attention is sincerely appreciated: Dr. Dilip D. Kuchare and Dr. Gerry Love, the staff of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and also the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, all of who offered excellent care during this difficult time. Memorial offerings in Mr. Holt’s name may be made to the St. Francis de Sales Regional Catholic School or to a charity of your choice; envelopes may be obtained at the Enea Family Funeral Home.
