Obituary of Joseph Kolkowski

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. Joseph Kolkowski, 83 a longtime Little Falls resident, most recently residing with his daughter and son in law, Donna and Les Kaleta in North Utica, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 4, 2009. His passing occurred in Northside Hospital Rehabilitation Center, Tampa, Florida where he was recovering from a mild stroke. He was born on March 7, 1925 in Konkolniki near Stanislanvoro Poland, Europe son of the late Felix and Paulina (Rymar) Kolkowski and educated in schools in his native country. The family came to Little Falls in 1950 and Mr. Kolkowski resided there until 1995 when he began living with his daughter in North Utica. He was a Veteran of the French Army. In 1946, he was married to Aniela Wojteczak in Germany who passed away in 1974. Joseph was last employed for 16 years as a steward with the Polish Community Home in Little Falls where he was also past president and committeeman. He also was a member of the former Polish Veterans Club of Little Falls and a current member of the Polish Club and United Polka League of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was formerly employed with UNIVAC-Ilion for 16 years as a machine operator and inspector and also at one time by Snyder Manufacturing, Little Falls. He formerly attended St. Mary’s Church (Holy Family Parish), Little Falls. Survivors include his beloved family: a daughter: Donna Kaleta and husband Les of Utica; a son John Kolkowski of Utica; three cherished grandchildren: Adam, Andrew, and Joey Kaleta; a great granddaughter: Giavanna and her mother Rebecca; his beloved friend and companion: Julia in Florida; cousins: Stella Ciano of Little Falls, Pauline Golicki of Herkimer and Barb and Joe Guiffre also of Herkimer along with other cousins; two nieces: Lydia Kolkowski and Irene Kolkowski of New York, NY. He was preceded in death by two sons: Adam and Edward Kolkowski in 1971 and by three brothers in war. Mr. Kolkowski will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls from 9-10:30 am on Monday, March 9, 2009. His funeral will commence at 10:30 am on Monday from the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with his wife and two sons.
