Obituary of Theodore Laszkewycz

HERKIMER-Staff Sgt., U.S. Air Force, Theodore “Ted” Laszkewycz, 75, of Lansing St., Herkimer passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Saturday afternoon July 25, 2009. He was born on July 9, 1934 in Iwanowo, Russia the son of the late Joseph and Sophia (Kaminski) Lashkewicz. After immigrating to the United States in 1950, Ted answered the call of duty by enlisting with the United States Air Force on September 29, 1954, and was honorably discharged on September 28, 1958, after four years of dedicated service to our country. He served with honor and distinction and was discharged with the Rank of Staff Sgt. Ted received a degree in engineering in Kansas City, Missouri, and was employed as an engineer with General Electric, retiring in 1989 after many years of loyal service to the company in the United States and abroad. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, and also belonged the American Legion Post #38 of Herkimer. Mr. Laszkewycz demonstrated a sincere and dedicated commitment to his family and friends. He spent his free time restoring his vehicle and had a special interest in cars. Ted loved traveling and took several trips to Europe to visit extended family. He will be sadly missed. Survivors include his sister: Emilia Kuczynski of Herkimer; his nephew: John Kuczynski, wife Carolyn, and great nephew Alexander of Ilion; a niece: Christina Kuczynski, and boyfriend Dan Murphy of Herkimer; and many cousins including Jan Laszkiewicz who dedicated his time in taking care of Ted during his illness. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer (866-1011) on Monday, July 27, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. Ted’s funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Tuesday, July 28 from the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest and military honors will be offered by the U.S. Air Force.
