Obituary of Jean Lonis

LITTLE FALLS-Mrs. Jean F. (Verri) Lonis, 71, passed away peacefully on New Years Day 2009 at Little Falls Hospital with her family at her side after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 24, 1937 in Little Falls, daughter of the late James and Lucy (Denitto) Verri and educated in Little Falls schools. On December 20, 1958, she was united in marriage with David F. Lonis in St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls. Mr. Lonis passed away on June 7, 2004. Jean was last employed as a medical secretary and receptionist for Dr. Suresh Sharma in Little Falls. She was of the Catholic faith. A devoted, passionate and compassionate family woman Jean committed herself entirely to the needs of her loved ones, especially to those of her cherished grandchildren that she was proud to help raise. Jean was an accomplished bowler with numerous trophies and awards to prove so and also was a proud member of the New York State Woman's Bowling Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing scrabble with her twin sister Joan. She was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed trips to the casino. She is survived by her beloved family: three sons David Lonis and fiancé Michelle Grey of Little Falls, Michael Lonis and fiancé Laurie Jornov of Little Falls and Raymond Lonis of Valatie, NY; a brother: Tony Verri and wife Barbara of Little Falls; two close sisters: Joan Lasher of Oppenheim and Agatha Pietropaoli of Little Falls; three special aunts: Nettie Volpe of Rome, Dena Collis of Little Falls and Connie Casullo of Little Falls; her cherished grandchildren: Christina Keavaney –Lonis, Elwood Zane Lonis and Jessie Davidson Lonis; in laws: Geraldine Verri of Little Falls, Robert Lonis and wife Marge of Little Falls, Eleanor Hanley and husband Bob of Victor, Tony Gabriel of Herkimer and Elizabeth Schneider of Ilion; many nieces, nephews and cousins and her special friend Jim Spaman of Frankfort. She was predeceased by an infant son, Kevin Lonis and by two brothers: Fiorello and Gino Verri. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 11 am-2 pm. Jean's funeral will commence at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Father Anthony Ligato, pastor of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls officiating. She will be placed in the Enea Family Funeral Home private vault until the spring when she will be laid to rest in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. A heartfelt thank you is extended from the family to the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Buffalo Hope Lodge who provided tender love and care to Jean during this difficult time.
