Obituary of John C McGinnis

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. John C. McGinnis, 84, of 27 Top Notch Drive, Little Falls reached the end of his earthly journey and entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday morning, August 23, 2009 in Little Falls Hospital. John was born in Little Falls on August 6, 1925, the son of the late John and Anna McGinnis. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and attended Siena College in Loudonville and also the Utica School of Commerce. John entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and after completion of Hospital Corps School at Portsmouth Naval Hospital he was assigned to the Fleet Marines as a medical corpsman. He completed Marine basic training at Parris Island and Marine amphibious training in San Bruno, California before being sent to the South Pacific area. He was honorably discharged discharged in May of 1946. On June 12, 1948, he was united in holy matrimony with the former Theresa Connors in St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls, a loving union of 61 years. John was employed by the United States Postal Service for 42 years, retiring as Postmaster in Dolgeville in June of 1990. John is survived by his beloved wife Theresa; two daughters: Jacqueline McGinnis of Rensselaer, and Peggy Romano and husband Peter of Little Falls; two brothers: James McGinnis and wife Rosemarie of Manlius and William McGinnis and wife Virginia of San Diego, Ca.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. John’s funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Friday morning, August 28 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Sts., Little Falls where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Vail. He will then be laid to rest in the family mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider contributions to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
