Obituary of Harold Miller

Mr. Harold Leslie Miller 83 of 91 South Main Street Dolgeville, died Thursday evening January 15, 2009 in Bassett Health Care, Cooperstown after a brief illness. He was born on July 21, 1925 in East Herkimer the son of Leslie C. and Fannie (Seeney) Miller and was a graduate of Mohawk Central School. He continued his education by graduating from the Utica School of Commerce. A Veteran of WW II he served honorably in the United States Navy Seabees from October 19, 1943 until his honorable discharge on May 26, 1946, with the rank of Yeomen 2C. He served in the Pacific Theater, earning the following medals,Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and was also an expert rifleman. His marriage to the former Shirley Leavitt took place on October 16, 1954 in the Annunciation Church in Ilion. Harold was employed by area Companies including the former Remington Rand Company and UNIVAC Company both of Ilion and also Mohawk Data Sciences of Herkimer. Upon his retirement from MDS he worked part time for the True Value Hardware Store in Ilion. He is a 60 Year member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge #796 F & AM, also a member of the American Legion Post of Mohawk. He personally enjoyed gardening both with flowers and vegetables, along with bird watching. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years for the scout troop in the Van Hornsville area. His family recalls the many hikes and walks that they took in the woods on their special outings. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 55 years, his sons- Daniel Miller of Mohawk, Steven and his wife Karen Miller of St. Augustine, Fl., his daughters Susan and her husband Carl Stallman of Dolgeville, Annemarie and her husband Gary Creason of Bedford, Mass. And Denise Sanzio of Stowe, Mass. A Brother in Law William Rankins of Mohawk, a Sister in law Betty Miller of Herkimer, 10 Grandchildren 1 Great Granddaughter. He was predeceased by grandson Phillip Leslie Stallman and a Brother Gordon Miller and his sister June Rankins. Calling hours are on Sunday afternoon January 18, 2009 from 1-4 PM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. The Dolgeville Masonic Lodge will hold ritualistic services at 3:30PM at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Rural Park Cemetery in the Spring. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society in his name. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
