Obituary of Augustine Perrone

ILION-MCALPIN, FLORIDA-Mr. Augustine A. "Shorty" Perrone, 75, for the past ten years a resident of McAlpin, Florida and formerly of East Street, Ilion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 9, 2009 in Gainesville, Florida; at the time of his passing he had the love and support of his wife, Lucille, by his side. He was born on February 16, 1934 in Herkimer, the son of the late Augustino and Margaret (Cope) Perrone. On April 20, 1985, Shorty was united in marriage with the former Lucille Forbes-Bowman, enjoying a loving union of 24 years. The Perrone's loved to travel and spend time together. Shorty proudly served our country with the United States Marines from 1953-1957 and was honorably discharged. He retired from F.E. Hale Manufacturing after 43 years of dedicated service. Mr. and Mrs. Perrone were Ilion residents until retiring to McAlpin, Florida in 1999. Mr. Perrone was a longtime member of the American Legion Anthony R. George Post #6 of Herkimer. Shorty enjoyed working outdoors and loved to work around the house. Shorty was a family man, deeply dedicated to his loved ones. His attitude and personality was an inspiration to all those around him. He was famous for drinking a cup of coffee at the end of the day. Mr. Perrone will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his beloved family; his wife Lucille Forbes Perrone of Florida; six sons: Patrick Perrone and wife Ellen of St. Johnsville, Michael Perrone, Timothy Bowman and wife Brenda, Keith Bowman and wife Tammy, Dale Bowman and wife Tara all of Ilion; and Gerald Forbes and wife Diane of Herkimer, NY; a sister Rose Krazewski of Poland, NY. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a sister in law: Roberta Ingraham and husband Gary of Ilion. Shorty was predeceased by four sisters: Carm, Nellie, Cecilia, Florence and by three brothers: Patrick, Michael and Joe. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. Mr. Perrone's funeral will commence at 11am on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home where prayer will be offered by the Rev. Janet Gleason, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer-Little Falls. Procession will follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
