Obituary of John Quinn

HERKIMER- John “Jack” Quinn, of North Main Street Herkimer passed away on Saturday morning, April 25, 2009 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 7, 1931 in Kingston, New York , son of the late Dr. Charles A. and Ellen (May) Quinn. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1948, then attended Fairfield University in Connecticut receiving his Bachelor’s Degree. Furthering his education he then received his Master’s Degree from St. Lawrence University. Jack was joyfully united in marriage to Olina Fusco on August 20, 1960 in St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer by Father John Manion. The couple shared a devoted union for 46 years until her passing on February 25, 2007.Jack was a devoted Biology teacher in the Herkimer School system for 30 years. He extended his strength of character and his selflessness to his students and provided them with staunch and dependable support throughout the years and many expressed a debt of gratitude to him for what they have become today. Jack served on the Board of Directors for the Herkimer Memorial Hospital and the Board of Trustees for Herkimer County Community College. Jack was an avid golfer, skier, reader and traveler. He will always be remembered as a gentleman , kind hearted, loyal to family and friends, and his witty sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by his beloved family; his brother James Quinn and wife Dolores of Kingston, Teresa Fusco of Herkimer, Gregory Fusco and wife Olga of Herkimer, Adeline Lilli of Frankfort, Emma Lanza and husband Nicholas of Herkimer, Pat McMahon of Michigan, Anthony Fusco and wife Josephine of Herkimer, Clark Workman of Pennsylvania, and Claudine Grande of Herkimer. He also leaves many adored nieces and nephews who were like his own children. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Olina, his parents Dr. Charles A. and Ellen May Quinn, and sister Sheila; by his in-laws: Brady and Fred Trimboli, Leonard Fusco, Orlando and Mary Fusco, Dominick Lilli, Arthur Fusco, Marion Workman, and Dominick Grande. He was also preceded in death by two special nephews, Benjamin and Salvatore Fusco. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Enea Family Funeral Home on North Washington Street in Herkimer on Monday, April 27 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Mr. Quin's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28 at Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery. John’s family would like to extend their gratitude to those that helped him during his time of need.
