Obituary of Evelyn Reckeweg

MOHAWK - Evelyn E. (Pomeroy) Reckeweg, age 69, of 640 Shoemaker Rd., Mohawk, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. She was born on June 15, 1940, in Utica, a daughter of Ray and Rena (Burdick) Brewer, and attended Mohawk schools. On March 14, 1957, she was married to Leroy W. Pomeroy in Walton, NY. He died on October 8, 1993. She later married Ron Reckeweg on October 24, 2008, in East Herkimer. Evelyn was employed in the laundry dept. at Mohawk Valley General Hospital and St. Luke's Mohawk Valley Division, Ilion, for over 30 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, East Herkimer. Survivors include her husband, Ron; her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dan Rando, of Herkimer; her son and daughter-in-law, Leroy W., Jr., and Wilma Pomeroy, of Waterville; four grandchildren, Allen Pomeroy and wife, Kimberly, of Clinton, John Pomeroy and wife, Amber, of Waterville, Jason Rando and wife, Tiffany, and Brooke Rando, all of Herkimer; her great-granddaughter, Jenna Lynn Pomeroy; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her sister-in-law, Betty Leitz, of Ilion. Evelyn was predeceased by her father, Ray, in 1942; her mother, Rena Wilson, in 2005; her son, Allen Pomeroy, in 1963; and her sister, Virginia Brown, in 1992. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with President Jerry Buck, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, officiating. Interment will be in Frey's Bush Cemetery, Town of Minden, NY. Calling hours are Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. The family wishes to thank the CCU staff at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
