Obituary of Delores Reel

MOHAWK-ILION - Delores L. Reel, age 74, of Rock Hill Road, Mohawk, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford. She was born on Dec. 28, 1934, in Cherry Valley, the daughter of Elwood and Elizabeth (Crewell) Austin. At one time, she was married to Clarence Guyer. Later she married Walter Reel on March 16, 1975, in the town of Ohio. Delores was a waitress at the Empire Diner in Herkimer for 21 years. She also was the steward at the Herkimer Polish Club and a bartender at the Maennerchor in Little Falls. Delores was a member of the Little Falls Maennerchor, Little Falls Polish Club and was a life member of the Herkimer Polish Club. Survivors include her husband, Walter; two daughters, Linda Guyer and special friend Sandy Hurteau, Brenda Hurteau and her husband James, all of Ilion; one son, Marty Austin and his wife Wanda of Little Falls; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors; two sisters, Connie Bernier of Florida and Carol of Georgia. She was predeceased by her son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Sheila (Mead) Guyer, her parents, Elwood and Elizabeth Austin, her sisters, Barbara Lalio, Mona Olmstead and Sheila Austin; and her brother, Elwood “Ned” Austin. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Ken Allen, of the Ohio Alliance Church, officiating. Spring interment will be in North Columbia Cemetery, town of Columbia. Calling hours are Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. prior to the service at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Delores L. Reel Special Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
