MOHAWK - Martha J. Sanders, age 70, formerly of 11 North St., Mohawk, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Folts Home, Herkimer, where she resided. She was born on Oct. 26, 1938, in Frankfort, the daughter of Millard and Bertha (Day) Ashley, and graduated from Herkimer High School. On May 20, 1966, she was married to Everett V. Sanders. Survivors include her husband, Everett; her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Harry Taylor of Herkimer; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Melissa Sanders of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Darrell and Kim Sanders of Ilion; six grandchildren, Zachary and Sabrina Taylor of Herkimer, Nicholas and Hannah Sanders of Ilion, Michael and Kaylee Sanders of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Dorothy Ashley of Cocoa Beach, Fl., Fred and Shirley Ashley of Little Falls, Floyd and Carol Ashley of Herkimer, Melvin and Marilee Ashley of Santa Ysabel, Calif., Bob and Carol Ashley of Amsterdam, N.Y.; two sisters, Doris Trombetta and Frances Jastrenski of Utica; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Richard and John Ashley and her son, Daniel Sanders. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Graves-Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk, with the Rev. Dr. Roger Klosner, chaplain of the Folts Home, officiating. Spring interment will be in Frankfort Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Martha’s family wishes to thank the staff of Folts Home for the excellent care and compassion that was given to her during her stay at the nursing home.
