Obituary of Ethel Shermeta

ILION-CASSVILLE - Ethel Lois (Bergloff) Shermeta, age 87, formerly of Ilion and Cassville, died Wednesday, Jan 21, 2009, at Folts Home, Herkimer. She was born on Aug. 13, 1921, in Golden City, Mo., the daughter of Clinton “Clint” and Ethel (Sellers) Farmer. On Oct. 1, 1938, she was married to Gilbert Bergloff in Golden City, Mo. In 1942, they moved to Ilion. He died on July 27, 1976. On July 7, 1982, she married Stephen Shermeta in Bridgewater. He died on Nov. 17, 1991. She was employed at Beaunit Fibers Rayon Factory, Utica, for 14 years. Survivors include: Four daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Ronald Farber of Newport, Sherry and George Key of Hobart, N.Y., Jean and George Gottung of St. Johnsville; and Martha and Roger Treen of Millers Mills - Ilion; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gilbert and Patti Bergloff of Illinois; Neil and Odette Bergloff of Hershey, Pa.; and Steven and Sara Bergloff of Virginia; 21 grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two step-daughters, Linda McConnell and husband Lance of Cassville and Judy Pritchard and husband Dale of Cassville; one stepson, Stephen Shermeta and wife Theresa of Pennsylvania; a sister, Virginia Kattato of Frankfort; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, George and Marlene Farmer of Carthage, MO; Wayne Farmer of Golden City, Mo.; Elda Farmer of Carthage, Mo.; Jo Farmer of Springfield, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Martin E. Key and Marjorie E. Treen, and two brothers, John and Ray Farmer. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Ed Woodworth of Community Baptist Church of Millers Mills officiating. Spring interment will be in Cedarville Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 11a.m. to 12 noon, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the 5th floor staff at Folts Home for the support and wonderful care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Marjorie E. Treen Memorial Scholarship Fund.
