Obituary of Edward Slabe

Edward Slabe, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Mohawk (Town of Little Falls) on Feb. 25, 2009. Ed was born in the town of Little Falls on March 23, 1927 son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Mizerak) Slabe. On June 7, 1952, he was joined in marriage to June Marie Siver at the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer. Edward was a graduate of Mohawk Central High School and worked as a machinist and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union for many years. He was last employed as a gun-builder with Remington Arms in Ilion, for 20 years, before retiring in 1989. He was past president of the Slovenian Home of Little Falls and officer of the Ilion Remington Arms Federal Credit Union. Edward is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Marie Slabe of Mohawk; two sons, Edward Jacob Slabe of Magnolia, TX and Brian Richard Slabe of Ilion; two daughters Linda June Barcelo and husband Joe of Franklin Lakes, NJ and Kathy Ann Polley and husband Ron of Sandusky, OH; his brother Frank Slabe of Mohawk and his sister Olga Celebi of Little Falls and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by his in-laws Frances Slabe of Little Falls, NY, Raymond Siver, Ronald Siver and wife Erma and Florence Bower all of Dolgeville and Readoth Young of Little Falls, NY. Also surviving are many nieces nephews and cousins. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Faxton Hospital Infusion Dept and Slocum-Dickson Oncology Dept. for their professionalism. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Friday, Feb 27, 2009 from 4 - 6 PM with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Janet Gleason of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the spring in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Faxton Hospital Infusion Dept. or the Slocum-Dickson Oncology Dept, New Hartford; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
