Obituary of Thomas Urtz

ILION/OCALA, FLORIDA- Mr. Thomas A. "Tom" Urtz, 58, a lifelong Ilion resident (James/Elm Streets), most recently of Ocala, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Friday evening, June 5, 2009 in Tampa General Hospital. At the time of his passing he was surrounded with the love and support of his family. Tom was born in Ilion on July 5, 1950, a son of the late Richard and Peggy (Dwyer) Urtz and graduated from Ilion High School. In July of 1970, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in July of 1974. On April 2, 1977, he was united in marriage with Cecelia Jones, a marriage of 25 years until her passing on January 30, 2002. Tom found happiness again when he married Robin Schimborski on November 18, 2006 in Ocala, Florida. He was employed as a cutter grind operator at Remington Arms, Ilion retiring after 31 years of dedicated service and then worked for Sorrento’s Pizza in Ilion part time. In his leisure time Tom enjoyed listening to music and bluegrass, playing guitar and especially the banjo. He also was an accomplished woodworker. Mr. Urtz treasured the time spent with his family and will be dearly missed by all who met him. Tom is survived by his beloved family; his sons: Jeffrey Urtz of Ilion and Christopher Urtz, and his wife Shannon of Frankfort; daughter: Lisa Urtz of Mohawk; two brothers: Steven Urtz and his wife Celena of Arizona and Robert Urtz of San Diego, Ca; a sister: Ann Cotter of Little Falls; his cherished grandchildren, Damian, Angelina, Olivia, and Anthony Urtz and one granddaughter on the way in October. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Joseph Thomas Schimborski, Jr. and wife Joy of Ocala, FL, David A. Schimborski and wife Jessica of Nashville, TN; step-grandchildren: Harold, Tia, Alyssa Beth, and Hayden; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (between Ilion and Frankfort), 894-8000, on Thursday, June 11, 2009 from 5 to 8 pm. His funeral will commence at 11am on Friday, June 12, 2009 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion/Frankfort, with the Rev. Thomas Trees, officiating. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton where he will be laid to rest and full military honors will be offered by the United States Navy.
