Obituary of Rosaline VanDusen

FRANKFORT-Mrs. Rosaline Ann “Roz” (Abdo) VanDusen, 74, of Second Ave., Ext., beloved wife of Robert E. "Bob" VanDusen, entered into eternal rest on Sunday afternoon, August 9, 2009 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica with the love and support of her family by her side. She was born on September 13, 1934 in New York Mills, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Abdo and graduated from New York Mills High School, “Class of 1952”. She also attended Utica School of Beauty Culture. On June 5, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert E. VanDusen with whom she shared a union of 55 years. Deeply committed to one another and to their marriage, Roz and Bob combined their mutual love and family and their home as the central focus of their lives as well as the source of their greatest joy. For many years, Mrs. VanDusen along with her son Bob operated “Roz’s Beauty Shop” from her home on Second Ave, Ext., in Frankfort and had a lifelong clientele. She was a devoted communicant of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, Frankfort and was a past Eucharistic Minister as well as a member of the Young At Heart Senior Citizens of Frankfort and the Red Hat Society. She spent numerous hours volunteering her time at the Herkimer County Economical Food Pantry of Ilion until her health permitted her not to do so. Roz was a loving and thoughtful woman, who possessed and demonstrated a sincere concern for others along with a willing and generosity to offer her help, support and understanding in order to meet any situation at need. Her lifelong pleasures were baking, cooking and taking care of her home. Her skill of cooking was especially used for the delight and benefit of family and friends. Above all, her greatest joy was caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren tending to their needs with love and devotion. She also spent a great deal of time and energy to gardening. Survivors include her beloved family; her husband, Robert of Frankfort; four children: Valerie Ackley and husband John of Saratoga, Rebecca Frederick of Schuyler, Robert T. VanDusen and wife Diane of Schuyler; and John F. VanDusen and wife Penny also of Frankfort; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Loeffler and husband Jeff of Virginia, Sarah Turner and husband Tommy of Mass., Ryan, Kaylin and Shelly VanDusen, Matthew, Patrick and Elizabeth Young; two great grandchildren: Olivia Loeffler and Grace Turner; a sister: Lillian Maugeri; two sisters in law: Charlotte Laura and husband Anthony of Frankfort and Lula DiCamillo of Indiana; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother: Albert Abdo; by five sisters: Winifred Ayoub, Nancy Huntley, Louise Ely, Myrtle and Madeline Abdo; and by her son in law: Norman Frederick. The VanDusen family will be present in the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Frankfort and Ilion, 894-8000 on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. Mrs. VanDusen’s funeral will commence at 9:45 am on Thursday, August 13th from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10:30 am from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort St., Frankfort where the Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort where she will be laid to rest in the family plot. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Herkimer County Economical Food Pantry of Ilion c/o Catholic Charities. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens will gather at the funeral parlor at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening to conduct their service. The family extends its sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staffs of both St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica and Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford for their tireless and dedicated caregiving. Also a special thank you to Dr. Butala and his staff for their kindness and compassion.
