Obituary of Ruth Walrath

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Ruth K. Walrath,96 of Albany, formerly of St. Johnsville entered into eternal rest on September 21, 2009 at Teresian House in Albany. She was born in St. Johnsville on October 9, 1912, daughter of the late Philip and Mabel (Fraats) Furbeck. On October 9, 1933 she was united in marriage with Leo E. Walrath. Their union lasted 51 years until Leo's passing in 1985. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for Beech Nut in Canajoharie and as a Superintendent of Sunday School for 13 years at St. John's Reformed Church in St. Johnsville. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Nile in Utica. Survivors include her daughters: Marilyn Peterson and her husband Jim of Kansas, Elaine Herzog and her husband Richard of Bethlehem, PA; her sons Philip Walrath and his wife Patricia of Albany and Allen Walrath and his wife Nancy of Amsterdam; her 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, her niece Suzanne Strange of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters Phyllis Wiggins, Lucia Tanner and Jeanne Joyce. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday September 23, 2009 from 2-3pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St. Saint Johnsville. A religious service will follow at 3pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library or to the St. John's Reformed Church. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
