Obituary of Robert White

HERKIMER-Mr. Robert J. “Bob” White, 59 of Prescott St., passed away on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2009 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester following a long illness. He was born on August 3, 1949 in Herkimer, son of the late Richard E. and Barbara E. (VanValkenburg) White and graduated with the Herkimer High School, “Class of 1968”. He attended Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. For 27 years he was married to Catherine Eades. Bobby was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1968-1972. He was last employed as at toll collector with the New York State Thruway. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Bobby was a loving father and devoted grandfather tending to the needs of loved ones whenever called upon and had a sincere concern for his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially trapping and fishing and loved sports and was a huge Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Survivors include his beloved family; three children: Michael White and wife Abby of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jessica White of Herkimer and Stephen White of Ilion; four siblings: Richard E. White and wife Evelyn of Virginia Beach, Dennis White and wife Michelle of West Palm Beach, Florida, Kathleen Carroll and husband William of Greene, NY and Daniel White of Norwich; four adored grandchildren: Taylor White, Libbie White, Mardi Grau and Mikayla Grau; many nieces, nephews, cousins and an uncle: Sam Celi of Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. Bobby’s funeral will commence at 10:15 on Friday morning from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger St., Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. He will be laid to rest in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where military honors will be accorded by the US Navy. Kindly consider memorial offerings to Strong Memorial Hospital (Transplant Program), Rochester or to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor.
