Obituary of Walter S Wieczenski

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. Walter S. Wieczenski, 85, a longtime Little Falls resident, most recently of Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 11, 2009 in that facility. At the time of his passing, he had the love and support of his family by his side. He was born on August 31, 1923 in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Charles and Lottie (Malanowski) Wieczenski and educated in New Jersey schools. He lived the greater part of his life in Little Falls. On May 25, 1945, Walt was united in marriage with Wanda Wojcicki in Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church; a union of love and devotion for 63 years. Walter was a U. S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He enlisted on December 9, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 25, 1946 and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon. Walt was last employed as a millright with Remington Arms, Ilion for over 12 years. He was formerly employed with Metropolitan Insurance and also Cherry Burrell Corp., Little Falls for many years. Mr. Wieczenski was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church where he held every church position and also was chairman for over 20 years. He was also very active with the church cemetery and belonged to the Little Falls Staff Sgt. Steve Stefula VFW Post. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife Wanda; a son: Walter Wieczenski, Jr., and wife Carol of Little Falls; a daughter: Debra Spytko and husband Ronald of Little Falls; four cherished grandchildren: Craig Wieczenski and wife Wendy, Kevin Wieczenski, Amanda Saunders and husband Nick, and Amy Bonfardeci and husband Joseph; five adored great grandchildren: Rachel, Evan, Lauren, Matthew and Brady; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws. He was predeceased by two brothers: Chester and Henry. The wake will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 5-8 p.m at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls. Relatives and friends are also invited to Mr. Wieczenski's funeral commencing at 10:15 am on Saturday, March 14 from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will take place and at 11 am from Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, with Father Rafael Dadello, pastor officiating. He will be laid to rest in the spring in Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Cemetery where military honors will be offered by the U.S. Army. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the 4th floor at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion; envelopes are available at the funeral parlor. The family extends its sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for their sensitivity and compassion and tending to the needs of Walter, his wife and his family, especially those on the 4th floor. Members of the Little Falls VFW are asked to gather at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6 p.m. to conduct their service.
