Obituary of Kenneth Ajello

MONTICELLO-Kenneth J. "Ken" Ajello, 59, of Richfield Springs, (town of Monticello) passed away on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at his home with loving family by his side. He was born November 6, 1948 in Newark, NJ the son of the late William & Ruth (Steets) Ajello and was a graduate of Nutley High School, Nutley, New Jersey, class of 1966. His marriage to Maria DiScerni took place on July 15, 1973 at the Queen of Peace Church in North Arlington, NJ. Mr. Ajello was a United States Army veteran, enlisting in 1968 where he started with his tour of duty in Germany. From 1969 to 1970 he fought in the Vietnam War. He served another tour in Germany, while serving his country, Ken received the following medals; NDSM, BSM, VCM with 4BSS, VCM with 60 Device, and 2 O/S Bars. Ken was honorably discharged in 1971. Ken was last employed at Fidelity Chemical Company in Newark, NJ. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans for America Chapter #32, the North Arlington Elks Lodge in New Jersey, the founding president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #827 in Herkimer, the Society of the 5th Division, US Army, Northeast USA Vietnam Veteran?s Reunion Association in Freehold, NY, and was very active with the veteran?s issues concerning POW-MIA. He was also an active participant in the Relay for Life at the Ilion High School; he received his black sash in TaiChi at Bailey?s Karate School in Herkimer, and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, camping and fishing. Survivors include his loving wife, Maria of Richfield Springs, a son, Jason C. Ajello and fianc?e Sabrina O?Dell and her son Aspen of Bridgton, Maine, his mother-in-law, Ada DiScerni of North Arlington, NJ, and many special and dear friends. He was pre-deceased by his father-in-law, Antonio DiScerni. A prayer service will be held on Monday March 17, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, NY. Burial will follow at 1:30 pm at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY with full military honors accorded. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday March 16, 2008 from 4-7 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Vietnam Veterans Reunion Association, P.O. Box 326, Freehold, NY 12431. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Howard and Staff for the exceptional care that Ken received at the Syracuse VA Hospital, also a sincere gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care for the care and compassion shown to Ken.
