Victoria Barnett

Obituary of Victoria Barnett

Victoria Francesca Levita Barnett, 51, of W. Main St., Mohawk, NY. The family of Victoria Barnett mourns her loss on June 1, 2008. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing. Victoria?s passing was the result of a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 17, 1957, in California, Victoria was the daughter of the late Jose Gonzalez and Levita Gonzalez. Victoria?s greatest source of pride was her husband, children and grandchildren. She was joined in marriage with James Barnett, Jr., on October 22, 1994. Victoria was the beloved mother of Desiree Tubia and her husband, Maison Scahill, of Rochester, Caleb and his wife, Brooke Benson-Tubia, of Ilion, James Barnett, III, and Kamica Barnett, both of Mohawk. She was also the extraordinary grandmother of Astrid Victoria and Fox James Scahill, who lovingly referred to her as Memama. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Victoria is survived by her mother, Levita Gonzalez, of Ilion; siblings, Eva Gonzalez, of Mohawk, Joe and his wife, Mary Gonzalez, Robert and his wife, Barbara Gonzalez, all of Ilion, Laura Constantine and her husband, Bob, of New Jersey, Ricardo and his wife, Regina Gonzalez, of Ilion, and Jodie and her husband, Don Brunett, of Herkimer; and many adoring nieces and nephews. She also leaves loving friends, James and Mary Tubia, of Ilion, and Tina Lopez, of Mohawk. Victoria was a strong mother figure to her siblings and so incredibly loved as their big sister. She took great care of her brothers and sisters while they were growing up and remained a source of strength to them in their adult years. Victoria enjoyed a close and loving relationship with her father, Jose Gonzalez, until his passing. Her father was a retiree of the USAF and being a military child, Victoria enjoyed living in California, Hawaii, Okinawa and Texas prior to settling in the Mohawk Valley. She derived a great deal of enjoyment from riding her Harley and loving her pets. In keeping with Victoria?s wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours or funeral home service. However, friends and relatives are cordially invited to a graveside committal and memorial service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at the Mohawk Cemetery II on Rt. 28, Vickerman Hill Rd., Mohawk. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, please consider memorial contributions to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Donation envelopes will be available at the graveside service or by calling the funeral home at 866-2161 or 895-7722. All arrangements and supervision of services are entrusted to Don Applegate at Graves-Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk.
