Obituary of Kenneth Barringer

ILION-Mr. Kenneth Barringer, 76, of Columbia Center Rd., Ilion, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 1st, 2008 in Faxton-St. Luke?s Healthcare, New Hartford. He was born on August 14, 1931 in Honestville, NY son of the late Kenneth Frank and Henrietta (House) Barringer and educated in Richfield Springs schools. He graduated with Mohawk High School, Class of 1949. On May 19, 1979 he was united in marriage with Pauline Dallas in the Methodist Church of Watertown. Kenneth served our county during the Korean War with the U.S. Airforce. He enlisted on December 28, 1950 and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1954, nearly four years of dedicated service. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Ken was a self-employed contractor for many years and was of the Methodist Faith. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards and trips to Hunter Mountain. Mr. Barringer?s family was his greatest source of pride and satisfaction and was loved and respected by his loved ones. He was a member of the Ilion American Legion Post #920 where he also served as past commander. Survivors include his loving family; his wife, Pauline of Ilion; his children: Joni McGee of Fort Stockton, TX, Kent Barringer and wife Barb of North Carolina, Debra Keeler and husband John of Mohawk, Laurie Salamone and husband Bill of Schuyler, and Melissa Trapp of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister: Janet Kucerak and husband John of Richfield Springs; his cherished grandchildren: Danny, Derek, Jessica Harcourt, Brandi and Amanda Barringer of Mohawk, Tanya, Kari, and Tracy Keeler of Mohawk, Sam, Adam, and Grace Salamone of Schuyler, and Casey Jo, Nicole, TJ and Samantha Trapp of Colorado; several adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Shirley LaFountain, Gale Meyers, and Beverly Barringer and by three brothers: Robert, Harold and Frederick Barringer. The funeral will take place at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, (894-800) on Friday, April 4th, 2008 at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Hans Drew, officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Friday prior to the service. Members of the Ilion American Legion Post # 920 will conduct ritualistic services at the funeral home at 6 p.m. on Friday. He will be laid to rest in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville at the convenience of the family. Kenneth?s family offers their deepest gratitude to the Faxton-St. Luke?s nursing staff of the Intermediate Care Unit and the 5th floor for their kindness and compassion.
