Obituary of Lyle Borden

MOHAWK-Mr. Lyle A. Borden, I, 85 of State Route 168, Mohawk, town of German Flatts, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning, August 6, 2008 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home where he had been receiving wonderful care. At the time of his passing he had the love and support of his children by his side. He was born in W. Frankfort on August 25, 1922 son of the late Charles and Ruth (Archer) Borden and educated in W. Frankfort and Proctor High School. A blessed and devoted union of 63 years was began on November 4, 1944 when he was united in marriage with Florence Mullin in Ilion. She passed away on Christmas Day, 2007. Mr. Borden was last employed as Superintendent of Transportation with the Mohawk Central School District. He retired in 1983 following 28 years of dedicated service. Mr. Borden loved truck pulling and all motor sports. He cherished his many hours of relaxation on his tractor being a gentleman farmer. But most of all, he enjoyed and treasured the time he spent with his loving family and will be sadly missed. He was a member of the former Mohawk Methodist Church and also the Mohawk Fish and Game Club. He leaves a son: Lyle A. Borden II and companion Jean Coones of Mohawk; two daughters: Sharon Harter and husband James of Mohawk and Virginia Jaquish and husband William also of Mohawk; a brother and sister in law: Charles Borden and wife Betty of Clinton; three grandchildren: James Harter II and wife Rachel, Tech. Sgt. David Harter and wife Lysa, and L. Peter Rovazzi III; two great grandchildren: Zachary and Dylan Harter; a sister in law: Elizabeth Farnell of Mohawk; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife; by a sister: Elsie Furnari several years ago and by a brother Stanley Borden. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000 on Monday, August 11, 2008 from 10-11 a.m. His funeral will commence at 11 am following visitation on Monday morning in the Enea Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Engel, pastor of Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Procession will follow to Crown Hill Memorial Park, town of Kirkland where he will be laid to rest with his wife. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Herkimer County Humane Society or a charity of your choice; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor.
