Obituary of Philip Bowen

ILION- Philip E. Bowen, 73, of Ilion NY, passed away at his home Tuesday evening September 30, 2008. Born August 26,1935 in Lake Placid, NY, He was the son of Earnest and Frances Bowen. The family purchased a farm and moved to Richfield Springs in 1943 where he attended school in the Cherry Valley school district. He was joined in marriage to Mary E. McGee in 1960. They resided together in St. Johnsville where Phil worked as an auditor for A&P grocery before opening two family run restaurants in 1962. In 1965 he began employment with Holiday Inn in Menands as General Manager. The family moved to Oneonta NY in 1972 where he opened the Holiday Inn. He continued a long career with the company opening and managing many hotels throughout the years. Moving back to the area in 1987 he managed the Beardslee Manor then taught culinary arts for a number of years in Albany before retirement. Phil is survived by two sons; Bart B. Bowen and his partner Crystal Davis of Nelliston NY and Matthew and Amy Bowen of Whitesboro NY. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren: Meagan, Noah, Ryan, Kimberly, Stephanie, Adam and Nicholas Bowen. A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 5, 2008 at 3:00pm at the United Methodist Church of Fort Plain, 39 Center St. Fort Plain, NY with Pastor Griffith presiding. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the United Methodist church of Fort Plain.
