Obituary of Ann Carney

FRANKFORT-Mrs. Ann (Nicastro) Carney, 93, formerly of 225 W. Main St., Frankfort, most recently of Folts Homes and Valley Health Services, Herkimer passed away on Monday evening, October 27, 2008 peacefully in Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born in Ilion on September 30, 1915, daughter of the late Calogero "Cross" and Providenza (Caruso) Nicastro and educated in Frankfort schools. She was united in marriage with John Carney on April 8, 1941. Mr. Carney passed away on October 14, 1976. Mrs. Carney along with her husband operated the Riverside Dairy Store on Old Route 5s in the town of Frankfort for many years. She retired in 1999 at the age of 85. She was very active and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort. Mrs. Carney was instrumental in the opening of Carney's Corners located in Herkimer and Little Falls. In her professional life, Mrs. Carney was a successful woman and gained the respect of many customers in Frankfort and throughout the valley. She will be missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her loving family, three sons: Brian Carney and wife Madeline of Herkimer, John Carney and wife Patricia of Ilion and Joseph Carney and wife Joan of Little Falls; a sister: Clara DeGristina and husband Leo of Schuyler; twelve grandchildren: Chris, Dana Madigan and husband Paul, Carlene, Crystal, John, Maureen, Kristen, Brian Jr., Tammy, Shane, Jolene and Kelly; six great grandchildren: Kyle, Cameron, Christopher, Christopher, Eric and Nyla; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Caruso, Rose Manino and Lucille DeGristina and by two brothers: Cross Nicastro and Joseph Nicastro. The family will be present in the Enea Family Funeral Home of Frankfort (4309 Acme Rd.,) to receive relatives and friends on THURSDAY, October 30, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. Mrs. Carney's funeral will commence at 9:15 on SATURDAY morning, Nov. 1, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 am from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor assisted by Deacon Jim Bower. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort where she will be laid to rest.
