Obituary of Patricia Champagne

Litchfield-Ilion - Patricia "Pat" Champagne, age 81, of 148 Hammond Rd., formerly of Cedarville Rd., Town of Litchfield, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at home. She was born on December 4, 1926, in Oconto, WI, the daughter of Michael and Eulalie (Caron) Thomas. Pat graduated from West Winfield High School in 1944 as the salutatorian and St. Ellis School of Nursing in 1948. She was employed as an R.N. at Bassett Hospital and was a member of the Naval Service Corps. On January 8, 1955, she was married to Edward Champagne at St. Joseph's Church, West Winfield. He died on February 22, 2007. Pat set aside her career to care for her husband and children while working in their family owned store "Champagne's Market". She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation and enjoyed gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. Pat will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Szewczyk and her husband, Peter, of Ilion, Therese Colwell and her husband, Richard "Skip", of Herkimer, and Barbara Lincourt and her husband, Jim, of Litchfield, with whom she resided; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Champagne and his wife, Dana, of Herkimer, and Christopher Champagne, of Cedarville; her cherished grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Emily and Jason Champagne, Andrea Szewczyk, Jeremiah, Carley and Jamie Lincourt, Christopher, Benjamin, Abby and Jack Champagne, Jennifer DiPerro and Brian Colwell; four great-grandchildren, Brooke Champagne, Robert James, Joshua DiPerro and Sora Colwell; two brothers, George Thomas, of West Winfield, and Mike Thomas, of Cedarville; one foster sister, Eleanor "Peanut" Hanley, of Canandaigua; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia was predeceased by her son, John, in 2002; sisters, Gertrude "Cookie" Penrod and Eleanor Thomas; and foster sister, Patricia Gabriel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Father Anthony Barratt officiating. Spring interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Winfield. Calling hours will be Saturday from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Cedarville Volunteer Fire Dept. Ambulance Corps or Frankfort-Ilion Food Pantry. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
