Obituary of James Christman

James R. ?Jimmy? Christman, 84, of Kringsbush Road, St. Johnsville passed away on Thursday March 20, 2008 with his loving wife Lucille, by his side. Jimmy was born May 4, 1923, the son of the late Edward O. & Bessie A. (Van Slyke) Christman and was a lifelong St. Johnsville resident. His educated began at the one room school at Crum Creek, and later at St. Johnsville High School, graduating in the class of 1940. Following school, he stayed at the family farm and also played in several dance bands, lastly with the Leon Jeffers Orchestra. In 1943 he became a partner with his father operating the Christcrest farm. On May 21, 1944 he married Lucille Peck of St. Johnsville. He retired from farming in 1972. Jimmy was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, in St. Johnsville and served in many capacities. He was vice chairman of the Official Board for 20 years, also a trustee and deacon. He was a charter member and past president of the 2F club. He was a member of the senior choir for many years. He gave a great deal of time over many years to the upkeep of the Grace Church. He was especially proud to have worked with the Roland Organ Co. installing the new organ. Jimmy was also a charter member of the Palatine Settlement Society. Jimmy was a hobbyist. His interest in the history of St. Johnsville led him to compile volumes of memorabilia. He was a member of the National Association of Milk Bottle Collectors and the Automobile License Collectors. His license plate collection feature plates from around the world. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Lucille, two grandsons, Lee C. Habeeb and Evan C. Habeeb, a son-in-law Richard Habeeb, a great granddaughter, Callie Elizabeth Anderson, all of Pennsylvania, a special ?son?, Ralf Pinnell of Florida and several cousins. He was pre-deceased by two daughters, Janice Elaine Christman and Cheryl Ann Habeeb. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 26, 2008 at 11:00 am from the Grace Christian Church in St. Johnsville, NY. Spring Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Grace Christian Church on Tuesday March 25, 2008 from 5-8 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ?Jimmy Christman Memorial Fund? of the Grace Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
