WATERBURY, CT/HERKIMER-Mr. Robert J. Cogovan, 66, of Waterbury, CT a Herkimer native, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his side, following a lengthy illness. He was born on February 19, 1942, in Herkimer, son of the late James Cogovan, Jr. and Helen (Malone) Cogovan and graduated with the Herkimer High School "Class of 1959". He was united in marriage to Shelby Bryant on February 25, 1970 with whom he shared and enjoyed a union of 38 years. Robert was employed most of his working career with the Endicott Johnson Shoe Company and lastly with Home Depot in Waterbury, CT. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include his loving family: his wife Shelby; two sons: Robert Cogovan Jr. and wife Shelly and their children: Chloe and Ryan of Waterbury, CT., and Shawn Cogovan also of Waterbury, CT; a brother: David Cogovan and wife Gail of Gloversville; three sisters: Mary Pileggi of Frankfort, Frances Hoffman and husband Robert of Ilion and Noreen Talarico and husband Dennis of Cortland; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters: Helen Swift and Patricia Cogovan and by a brother: James Cogovan, III. There will be a memorial mass of Christian Burial at the family's convenience on Friday, November 7, 2008 from St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger St., Herkimer with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor officiating. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Memorial offerings may be made to Hospice Care, Inc., envelopes will be available at the memorial service. Mr. Cogovan was dedicated to taking care of his wife, children and grandchildren. Family came first in his life always responding with care to the needs of his loved ones. He gave wholeheartedly to his cherished grandchildren who were the light of his life. A man of many wonderful qualities, he will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
