Obituary of Andrew Compolo

HERKIMER-Mr. Andrew R. “Andy” Compolo, 83, of Dickie Avenue, Herkimer entered into eternal rest on Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2008 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. At the time of his passing, he was comforted by his loving family. Mr. Compolo was born on April 13, 1925 in Little Falls, son of the late Rocco and Carmella (Perry) Compolo and educated in Little Falls schools. Andy proudly served his country enlisting with the United States Army in 1943 and served during campaigns in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of Private, 1st Class in 1945. On October 28, 1951 in St. Joseph’s Church, Little Falls he married the former Marilyn Clapp with whom he shared and enjoyed a wonderful life built upon mutual respect for each other for 48 years until her passing on January 2, 2000. Andy was last employed with Chicago Market, Herkimer where he was produce manager. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Mr. Compolo took wonderful pride in his family and Italian heritage. He was a loving, caring man with a generous heart. His deep devotion to his children and grandchildren made him an excellent and inspiring role model for them, as well as for other family members, and for all who knew him. Andy was very talented with his hands and enjoyed making keepsakes and crafts for his grandchildren who held these artistic gifts close to their heart. He was also known for his wonderful cooking skills and handed many of his fine recipes down to his family members. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, listening to country music and especially playing cards on Friday with his sisters whom he shared a close bond with. Survivors include his beloved family: his son: Andrew Compolo and Lori Rhodes of Spring, Texas; his daughter and son in law: Elaine Perkowski and husband Joseph of Cicero, NY; a brother: Frank Compolo and wife Carol of Herkimer; two sisters: Theresa Shumlansky and husband Richard of Little Falls and Jennie Cicciarelli of Dolgeville; three cherished grandchildren: Sara Morrice and husband Mike of Clay, NY, Dr. Matthew Perkowski and fiancé Kristy Frain of Rochester and Adam Compolo of Spring, Texas; his adored great granddaughter: Ashley Grace Morrice; three brothers in law: Marshall Scialdo of Florida , John Clapp of Florida and Joseph Capece of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by four sisters: Rose Galini, Frances Richie, Lucy Scialdo and Christine Capece and also by an infant brother. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff of 3 West at St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford and also to the wonderful staff of the Herkimer Dialysis Unit all who regarded Andrew with loving respect and attended him with caring compassion. The family will be present in Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Compolo’s funeral will commence at 10:15 on Sat., Dec. 27 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger St., Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid with his wife, Marilyn.
