ILION-Carl R. Darling, age 62, of 132 Rockwell Dr., Ilion, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Little Falls Hospital. He was born on November 20, 1945, in Ilion, NY, the son of George and Dorothy (Slade) Darling and attended Ilion schools. He was a machinist at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for 38 years, retiring in 2005. Mr. Darling was a member of the Oneonta Moose, Ilion Elks, 6th Ward Athletic Association of Oneonta, Ilion American Legion, Polish Community Home of Herkimer, St. Francis DiPaola of Frankfort, Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club and Ilion Marine Corps League. Survivors include Laura Piper, his near and dear lifetime companion; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Darling, of Ilion, Pamela and Michael Mann, of Webster, NY, Kimberly and Joe Javitz, of Ilion, and Tammy Darling and her fiance, Gerald Jock, of Utica; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Cheryl L. Darling, of Ilion; one stepdaughter, Kelly Jones, of Frankfort; two sisters, Dawn Wilson, of Charlotte, NC, and Cheryl Hennessy, of Montclair, VA; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Dick and Diana Darling, of Eclectic, AL, Melvin and Janet Darling, of Ilion, Gary and Lareeta Darling, of Columbia, KY; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his cat, Snowball. Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Victor McKusick officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 11 a.m.-12 noon, prior to the services.
