ST. JOHNSVILLE-Mr. Walter E. "Buzz" Davis, Jr., 81, of North Division Street, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 27, 2008 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, following a brief illness. At the time of his passing his entire family was offering love and support. Buzz was born on March 10, 1927 in Inghams Mills, son of the late Walter E. Davis, Sr., and Elizabeth D.(Sleezer) and graduated from St. Johnsville High School. On August 14, 1954, Buzz was united in marriage with Ruthanna (Walts) in Fort Plain Methodist Church; a union of 44 years until the passing of Mrs. Davis on May 29, 1999. A proud Veteran, Mr. Davis served with the United States Marine, Corps. Mr. Davis' last professional employment was with New York State Department of Transportation as an engineer. He was the former owner and operator of Davis Clothing Store in St. Johnsville and also worked as a butcher for Smith's Market in his earlier years. Mr. Davis was very community minded holding memberships with the following organizations: St. Johnsville American Legion Post #168, St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge #611 serving one time as mastor mason, St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department, serving as past fire chief, St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps., where he served on the board of directors, served as Justice of the Peace and St. Johnsville town clerk during the early 1960's, was past president of the H.C. Smith Benefit Club, and was extremely active with the Grace Christian Church, where he served as trustee. Mr. Davis loved baseball and played for the St. Johnsville Saints. As evident, Buzz put the needs of others before his own and will be sadly missed by his family and friends in St. Johnsville and surrounding areas. His family was his biggest source of pride and satisfaction and was never happier then when spending time with his cherished grandchildren. Survivors include his loving family: his son: Walter "Buzz" Davis and wife MaryAnn of St. Johnsville and a daughter: Mary "Elizabeth" Davis of Waterville; a brother: Gordon Davis of St. Johnsville and a sister: Caroline Hayes and husband John of St. Johnsville; three cherished grandchildren: Richard Davis and wife Megan of Philadelphia, Pa., Michael Davis and Michelle Davis both of St. Johnsville; two adored granddogs: Morgan and Rigs; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Herbert, Isabelle Marino, Margaret Hastings and Susie Davis. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville on Sunday, November 30, 2008 from 3-6 p.m. His funeral will commence on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 10:15 from the chapel of the funeral home and at 11 am from Grace Christian Church, 20 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. David A. Johnson, pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Freysbush Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Kindly consider honoring Buzz's memory with a contribution to the H.C. Smith Benefit Club of St. Johnsville or to the Masonic Lodge # 611; donations may be made at the funeral home where envelopes are available as well.
